October 10, 1956 ~ October 20, 2016 (age 60) 60 Years Old

Allan E. “Bundy” Ball

Allan Edward Ball, 60, died peacefully on October 20, 2016.

Born October 10, 1956 in Lima, Ohio to Stanley and Gladys “Peg” (Deck) Ball, Al led a full life. A devoted father, nothing brought him more joy than spending time with “his boys,” Ian, Jeremy, and Tony. To this day, they still argue about who was his favorite son.

When he learned of his pancreatic cancer diagnosis in November of 2014 and the journey ahead, his one wish was to see the Buckeyes play that team up North in “The Shoe.” His sons were thrilled to make that dream come true in the weeks that followed. It’s a memory that they will cherish forever.

Al loved regular golf outings with his lifelong golf buddies, found joy riding his motorcycle, and perfected his bowling hand. His quick wit and loving nature was appreciated by friends and strangers alike. A 1975 graduate of Ottawa-Glandorf High School, he was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles 2234.

Al worked for the Department of Transportation for the State of Ohio for a long 30 years. As if that weren’t an accomplishment in and of itself, he survived being stranded in the blizzard of 1978 –in his dump truck/snowplow—as he plowed snow on a state highway. Frankly, he didn’t always love his job, but he loved the people and he committed himself and worked hard to provide a nice life for his family. He retired at age 50.

Al shared 33 years of marriage with Brenda (Honigfort) Ball. He is survived by his mom, Peg Ball, sons Ian (Shannon) Ball, Mansfield, OH, Jeremy Ball, Columbus, OH, Tony Ball, Philadelphia, PA, grandkids Braden, Bradley, Brynleigh, Kiptin. He’s also survived by siblings Bob Ball, Joyce Trentman, Marcia Blossom, Joe Ball, Kathy (Pete) Dauer, Patty (Rich) Thomas, Mary (Ron) Corson, Deb (Dave) Hanneman, and Mike (Jane) Ball, and many nieces and nephews. Al is preceded in death by his father, Stanley Ball, brother, David “Rusty” Ball, and brother-in-law, Paul Trentman.

Al and his boys are forever grateful to Mary Maglinte, Al’s loving companion and caretaker of two years.

A casual open house will be hosted for friends and family on Sunday, October 23, 2016 at the American Legion Hall, Ottawa, from 11:00 am to 3:00 pm.
