Bettie J. Altenburger

  OTTOVILLE - Bettie J. Altenburger, 83, of Ottoville, died peacefully surrounded by her family at 8:40 a.m., Friday, December 1, 2017 at St. Rita's Medical Center, Lima.  She was born August 19, 1934 in Ottoville to the late Anthony and Petronella "Nellie" (Greulich) Koester.  On February 27, 1954, she married Paul J. "Duck" Altenburger and he survives in Ottoville.

  Other survivors include four children: Jeffrey (Linda) Altenburger of Ottoville, Scott (Kay) Altenburger of Troy, Terri (Steven) Metzger of Ottoville and Lisa (Mark) Vorst of Ottoville; ten grandchildren: Todd (Julie) Altenburger, Ross (Kristen) Altenburger, Matthew (Jena) Altenburger, Kristen Altenburger, Lauren Altenburger, Jamie (Scott) Saum, Lindsey (Bryce) Newton, Michelle (Michael) Leach, Shannon (Jhered) Cusumano and Josh (Amy) Vorst; nineteen great-grandchildren; a sister, Connie Lou Koester of Ft. Wayne and two sisters-in-law: Margie Koester of Ottoville and Sis (Tom) Schimmoeller of Delphos.

  She was also preceded in death by three brothers:  Jim (Vera) Koester, Thomas Koester and Ralph Koester.

  Bettie was part owner of J & P Trucking Inc. and had been a quality control inspector for Aeroquip for 20 years.  She was also a homemaker.  She was a member of The Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Ottoville and its Altar Rosary Society.  She was a lifetime member of the Ottoville VFW Auxiliary and a member of the Delphos and Lima Eagles Auxiliary.  She enjoyed spending time with the love of her life, Paul "Duck", her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and loved to visit with her sister.  Bettie loved playing the piano and singing, playing cards with family and friends and traveling especially to Florida.  Bettie graduated from Ottoville High School in 1952, loved to plant flowers and enjoyed all types of sports.   

  A Mass of Christian burial will begin at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, December 5, 2017 at The Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Ottoville with the Very Reverend Jerome Schetter officiating.  Burial will follow in the St. Mary's Cemetery, Ottoville.  Visitation will be from 2-8 p.m. Monday at LOVE-HEITMEYER FUNERAL HOME, Jackson Township where a scripture service will begin at 1:30 p.m.

  Memorial donations may be given to Immaculate Conception Church Window Restoration Fund or to the charity of the donor’s choice.
