OAKWOOD -- Carolyn J. Roughton, 83 of Oakwood died at 1:24 p.m. Friday, May 5, 2017 at Defiance Area Inpatient Hospice. She was born April 6, 1934 in Lima to the late Eugene Tunks and Evelyn Linebrink. On February 24, 1954 she married Rollin R. Roughton, who preceded her in death in 1985.
She is survived by her children: Rhonda (Buck) Downing of Oakwood, Diana (Ron) Sierer of Paulding, Nelson "Gene" (Judy) Roughton of Oakwood and Eric (Shelly) Roughton of Paulding; her 10 grandchildren: Candi (Rob) Egnor, Bob (Jodi) Sierer, Brittany (Brian) Daeger, Lindsay Roughton, Ben Roughton, Hailey (Nick) Pittman, Sydney Early, Savannah Roughton, Kait Roughton and Sam Roughton; 10 great-grandchildren: Damon, Kolson and Leigha Egnor, Max and Jack Daeger, Charlotte and Violet Fuller, Landree and Beckham Sierer and Declan Pittman with one more great-grandchild on the way; a brother-in-law: Ralph "Pud" Roughton; and a 3 sister-in-law: Addie Workman, Marjorie Roughton and Connie Dobbelaere.
Carolyn is preceded in death by a son: Matthew Roughton, a daughter: Cheryl "Bo" Early; a sister: Irene (Schultz) Hays; a brother: Francis L. Workman; brothers-in-law: Rex Roughton, Dale Roughton, Randy Roughton and Bill Schultz; sisters-in-law: Ruth (Roughton) Dodson and Rita Groh; her step-father: Leon Workman; and her grandparents: Sarah and William Linebrink, who raised her until she was in high school.
Carolyn retired in 1998 from Zeller Corporation, Defiance, after 35 years of service. She was devoted to both her faith and her family. She was a long time member of the Melrose United Methodist Church and the United Methodist Women. For many years, she has held a family dinner every Sunday for everyone in the family that could attend.
Carolyn was famous for her potato salad and her pies. She was a member of the both the Ladies Card Club at the Oakleaf Restaurant and Friends Saturday night card club. She loved to spend time with her family and was a wonderful friend.
The funeral service will be 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, May 9, 2017 at the Melrose United Methodist Church, with Rev. Eileen Kochensparger officiating. Visitation will be Monday from 2 to 8 p.m. at the HEITMEYER FUNERAL HOME, Oakwood and again on Tuesday from 10:30 a.m. until the time of service at the church.
