Donald A. "Mike" Schroeder

  KALIDA - Donald A. " Mike" Schroeder, 80, of Kalida,  passed away 9:18 a.m., January 31, 2018 at St. Rita’s Medical Center, Lima.  Mike was born on October 2, 1937 at home in Columbus Grove to the late Joseph and Frances (Knott) Schroeder. He is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Marjorie (Fortman) Schroeder, who resides in Kalida. 

   He is also survived by their three sons: Jeff (Diane) Schroeder, Dave (Rita) Schroeder, and Ron (Jackie) Schroeder, all of Kalida; nine grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; his brother Richard (Angie) Schroeder of Kalida; and many nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and nephews.

  He was also preceded in death by his sister, Marie (John) Kreinbrink; and three brothers: Harry (Rosie) Schroeder, Walter (Eleanor) Schroeder and Bob (Rita) Schroeder.

  Mike attended Kalida High School. He retired from Ford Motor Company in 1996, after 38 years of employment. Mike was an avid family farmer who could often be seen walking his fields or riding his gator with his dogs over the years.

  He was a member of  St. Michael's Catholic Church, Kalida and its Holy Name Society and a former member of the Ottawa Eagles and Kalida Knights of Columbus.  Mike enjoyed playing cards, watching sports and spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, often giving gator rides and providing them with an endless supply of chocolate bars.

  A Mass of Christian burial will be held on Monday, February 5, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Michael’s Catholic Church, Kalida with Fr. Mark Hoying officiating. Burial will follow in St. Michael’s Cemetery, Kalida.  Visitation will be Sunday, February 4, from 2:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Love-Heitmeyer Funeral Home in Jackson Township.

  In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Putnam County Home Health and Hospice.
