Donald "Duck" Warnement

   KALIDA - Donald "Duck" Warnement, 89, of Kalida died at 9:05 a.m. Friday, January 5, 2018 at Mercy Health St. Rita's, Lima. He was born May 7, 1928 in Kalida to the late George and Agnes (Dietrick) Warnement. On April 11, 1953 he married Barbara June Boerger only hours before the wedding mass at St. Michael's Catholic Church, Kalida Barbara's father, Harry Boerger died.

   He is survived by his children, Ann (Don) Baker of Dayton, Dave (Connie) Warnement of Cloverdale, and Kathy (Terry Keller) Dawson of Ft. Jennings; eight grandchildren, Jason Tirey, Jeremy Tiery, Joshua Dawson, Ronald Bulman, Jr., Donald Bulman, Barbara Bulman, Adam Warnement, and Denise Warnement; and two great-grandchildren, Michelle Bulman and Ronald Daniel Bulman. He was preceded in death by his wife, Barbara June; brothers, Ed, Albert, Wilford, Richard, Eugene, and John Warnement; sisters, Emma Hanson, Lucille Gilgenbach, Mary Saunders, and Martha Carder; and two sons-in-law, Ronald Bulman and Dennis Tirey.

   Don was a member of St. Michael's Catholic Church and its Holy Name Society. He was an adult server, gift bearer, greeter, usher and money counter at the church. He worked at Fruehauf Military for 37 years as quality control engineer. Don was a member of the Lima Umpires Association, Ohio School Athletic Association, National Baseball Congress, ACME Baseball Congress, and ASA, USAA Softball Association. He was assistant Scout Master to troop 221 in Kalida. Don umpired several high school baseball and softball tournaments around the counties, umpired Ottawa Merchants in the Ohio State League, and Maag Restaurant Mexican League in Leipsic.

   Don served in Korea. He was a member and former commander of Ottoville VFW post 3740 and a life member of Ft. Jennings American Legion post 715.

   A Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 a.m. Monday, January 8, 2018 at St. Michael's Catholic Church, Kalida with Fr. Mark Hoying officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with graveside military services by Ft. Jennings American Legion and Ottoville VFW. Visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m. on Sunday at LOVE-HEITMEYER FUNERAL HOME, Jackson Township.

   Memorials may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.
