George R. Wisser, Sr.

   OTTAWA – George R. Wisser, Sr., 94, of Ottawa died 1:25 p.m. Friday, January 12, 2018 at Lima Memorial Health System.  He was born February 17, 1923 in McKeesport, PA and on October 13, 1945 he married his loving wife, Winnie, who preceded him in death on February 25, 1993.

   George is survived  by three children:  Paul (Marsha) Wisser of Avon Lake, Mollie (Doug) Kennard of Martinsburg, WV and Nancy (Mike) Kaufman of Ottawa; 8 grandchildren: Kevin (Angela) Wisser, Kori (Neil) Frenk, Joel Kennard, Kathryn Kennard, Sara (Thomas) Kight, Leigh Ann Kaufman, Allison (Ben Spain) Kaufman and Jeffrey Kaufman; 10 great-grandchildren; and a special companion:  Reta Winkler of Leipsic.

    He is preceded in death by a son:  George Wisser, Jr. and three sisters:  Elvira Ragan, Georgene Lewis and Marian Mann.

   George was an Army Air Corp veteran of WWII.  He retired in 1984, after 34 years of service from Philips as a ceramic engineer.  He was a member of the Quarter Century Club.  He was also a charter member of the Ottawa Lions Club and a member of the Penn State Alumni Association.  He was a member of both the Theodore Roosevelt Lodge F & AM and the Israel Putnam Lodge #797 F & AM.  George was a 50 year member of the Ottawa Presbyterian Church.

   In retirement, George enjoyed buying and selling baseball cards, woodworking, and volunteering at St. Rita’s Medical Center.

   The funeral service will be 12:00 p.m. Friday, January 19, 2018 at Ottawa Presbyterian Church  with Rev. Ben Shaw officiating.  Burial will follow in Harmon Cemetery with military rites by the Ottawa VFW, American Legion and AMVETS.  Visitation will be Thursday from 4 to 8 p.m. at the LOVE FUNERAL HOME, Ottawa and again Friday for one hour prior to the service at church.  There will be a Masonic service 7 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
