Ottoville – Gerald H. Fischbach, 90 of Ottoville died 6:40 p.m. Sunday, January 1, 2017 at Lima Memorial Health System. He was born August 26, 1926 in Ottoville to the late Peter and Verona (Becker) Fischbach. On September 25, 1954 he married Martha Schlagbaum, who survives.
Also surviving are his children: Jane (Michael) Moening of Ottawa, Michael (Karen) Fischbach of Westerville, David Fischbach of Ottoville, Ginny (Mary Smith) Fischbach of Davisburg, MI and John (Gina) Fischbach of Lima; 14 grandchildren: Chad (Beth) Moening, Gina (Dwight) Wiltheiss, Kari (Cody) Niese, Tara Moening, Kyle (Ashley) Fischbach, Kurt (Heather) Fischbach, Tori (Joe) Grodecki, Courtney (Erick Jayjohn) Fischbach, Andrew Fischbach, Abby (Michael) Coppel, Baily Zimmerman, Molly Fischbach, Kelsey Fischbach, and Jack Fischbach; 12 great-grandchildren with 2 more on the way; a brother: James Fischbach of Pandora and a sister-in-law: Sharon Fischbach of Ottoville.
Gerald is preceded in death by 2 brothers: Eugene Fischbach and Victor Fischbach; an infant sister: Alice Fischbach; 2 sisters-in-law: Delores Fischbach and Mary Rita Fischbach; and 2 grandsons: Aaron Fischbach and SSG Sonny Zimmerman.
Gerald was a retired rural letter carrier for the US Postal Service and was a member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Ottoville. He was a Sergeant in the Army during the Korean Conflict serving from 1950 to 1952. While there he served as a teletype operator in the Signal Corp. Gerald was a life member of the Ottoville VFW and was a member of the National Rural Letter Carrier Association.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, January 5, 2017 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church with the Very Reverend Jerome Schetter officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at the LOVE-HEITMEYER FUNERAL HOME, Jackson Township.
