   McCOMB - Gerald "Jerry" E. Niese, 61, of McComb died at 7:30 a.m. Wednesday, January 3, 2018 at his residence. He was born February 24, 1956 in Lima to the late Carl F. and Marieta (Reindl) Niese. On March 27, 1976 he married Sheryl "Sherry" Sager who survives in McComb.

   Also surviving are four children, Melody (Dave) Morman of Glandorf, Matt (Beth Stall) Niese and Alex (Jodi Freeze) Niese both of Gilboa, and Garrett Niese of Leipsic; thirteen grandchildren; two brothers, Kenny (Nancy Hermiller) Niese of Findlay, Denny (Mary Westrick) Niese of Leipsic; and four sisters, Ruth (Mark) Kaufman of Ottawa, Doris (Tom) Warnimont of Miller City, Sharon (Mike) Grote of Ft. Jennings, and Lois (Mark) Snyder of Miller City, and Jerry's Mother in Law Kathy Sager who resides in Pandora.  He was also preceded in death by his father-in-law, Don Sager.

   Jerry was a farmer and operator of Niese Custom Pumping. He referred to himself as a Hydro Bio-mass Application Engineer. He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, Leipsic. Jerry loved to snowmobile, camp, and golf but his biggest love was for his family. He was a hard working guy who just loved life.

   He was a member of Leipsic Eagles and Ottawa K of C and was a former officer of St. Mary's Holy Name Society. He was a founding member of Midwest Professional Nutrient Applicators Association serving as secretary for numerous years, Pork Quality Assurance Certified Livestock Manager of Ohio, and Comprehensive Manure Nutrient Management for his family farms.

   Jerry and his brothers won Ohio Pork Producers Environmental Stewardship Award  in 2009 and worked with OSU Extension and the Putnam County SWCD on many research projects including topdressing and sidedressing crops with manure. He was the president of the private organization FSO. He spoke at numerous conferences about tillage and manure application. He owned, along with his brothers, and operated a commercial dragline manure business for 11 years.

   A Memorial Service will be held 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, January 6, 2018 at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Leipsic with Fr. William Pifher officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. on Thursday and from 1 to 7 p.m. on Friday at LOVE-HEITMEYER FUNERAL HOME, Leipsic.  Knights of Columbus Rosary will begin at 7:30 P.M. Thursday at the funeral home.

   In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Putnam County Hospice or to the family.
