James A. Steffen

   MILLER CITY - James A. Steffen, 70, of Miller City passed away peacefully on Thursday, November 9, 2017 at Dayton VA Hospice. He was born April 25, 1947 to the late Norbert and Leona (Eiden) Steffen. His wife of 41 years, Joyce (Ruhe) Steffen survives in Miller City. They married on April 23, 1976.

   His family: He is also survived by his three children, Nicole (Brad) Brown of Miller City, Matthew (Lisa) Steffen of New Cleveland, and Renee Steffen (Jennifer Treadway) of Athens; six grandchildren, Hannah, Kayleigh, Mya, and Braydon Brown, and Drew and Owen Steffen; and four siblings, Jeanette (Charles) Meyer of Ottawa, John (Elaine) Steffen of Findlay, Teresa (Wayne) Hermiller of Ottawa, and Tom (Christine) Steffen of Livonia, MI.

   Jim enjoyed playing ball with his children and grandchildren, taking his children to play Putt-Putt golf, fishing, and meeting with friends for coffee at the Pit-Stop. He was gentle and kind and always willing to help someone.

   His legacy: He graduated from Miller City High School in 1966 and shortly thereafter was drafted into the U.S. Army. He served in the Vietnam War where he was wounded and received the Purple Heart Medal. Jim was employed by Ford Motor Company for 37 years where he retired in 2010. He was a member of Miller City American Legion Post 172, Ottawa VFW, Ottawa Eagles, Miller City Sportsmen Club, and a lifetime member of the Ottawa Knights of Columbus. Jim was a member of St. Nicholas Catholic Church where he served as an usher, gift bearer, and was on the cemetery committee.

   His farewell services: A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, November 15, 2017 at St. Nicholas Catholic Church with Monsignor Charles Singler officiating. Burial will follow in St. Nicholas Cemetery. Military Rites will be conducted by the Miller City American Legion and Ottawa VFW.  Visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday at LOVE-HEITMEYER FUNERAL HOME, Leipsic where there will be a scripture service at 1:45 p.m. and a K of C Rosary at 7:30 p.m.

   Memorial contributions can be made to St. Nicholas Christian Formation Program or the Miller City American Legion. The family would like to convey a special thanks to Dayton VA Hospital and Hospice for their wonderful care and compassion.
