  OAKWOOD – Joe D. Mead, 69, of Oakwood, died 9:54 p.m., Friday, September 29, 2017 at his residence.  He was born January 8, 1948 in Paulding to the late Clark “Sam” and Alta (Shafer) Mead.  On December 19, 1981, he married Christine Pauley and she survives in Oakwood.  Other survivors include six children: Cary (Tina) Mead of Oakwood, Becky (Jay) Smith of Defiance, Larry (Cari) Mead of Columbus, Danny (Kelly) Mead of Marquette, MI, Clinton (Ashley) Mead of San Diego and Matthew (Andrea) Mead of Oakwood; eighteen grandchildren and a great-grandchild.

  Joe was the owner of Oakwood Hardware and Lumber in Oakwood.  He was a US Army Vietnam Veteran and a member of the Oakwood American Legion Post 341.

  Funeral Services will begin at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, October 4, 2017 at Heitmeyer Funeral Home, Oakwood with Pastor Robert Pauley officiating.  Burial will follow in Prairie Chapel Cemetery, Oakwood with military rites by the Oakwood American Legion.  Visitation will be from 2-8 p.m. Tuesday and one hour prior to the service Wednesday at HEITMEYER FUNERAL HOME, Oakwood.

  Memorial donations may be made to the Boy Scouts Troup 19, Cub Scouts Pack 19 or to the James Cancer Center.
