I have fond school memories of Mary Jane. She was my ninth grade English as well as my home economics teacher. She was no-nonsense teacher but did her job well. In English, she had us read those famous short stories, that I still recall to this day. In home economics, we really did learn some excellent life skills which children today should be more exposed to. I especially liked the cooking segment.
One strong memory I have is of Jerry's and her wedding. Mr. Miller had several members of the choir practice special music for the Mass. He had confidence in me in attempting to play the organ as the accompanist to the choir. It turned out beautifully with many compliments afterward.
I was pleased that earlier this fall when I stopped in at the Meadows to visit relatives, I saw Mary Jane. What surprised me most was that she knew me without hesitation. That was a good feeling for me. I am so glad I saw her in her last days.
My heartfelt sympathies to the whole family.

I will most remember you and Mary Jane for giving us starts of plants and herbs. I was hooked on lavender cookies after tasting her recipe at your home, and then grew my own lavender to this day. I cherish my memories with both of you. I send my sympathy to you and your family.

Dear Gerry and Family: While my acquaintance with your beloved Mary Jane has been limited to several months, my pastoral visits to her these past weeks and months were filled with many memories of her beloved St. Nicholas Parish and School. Early on during the first days since my arrival, she spoke about a number of historical aspects of the Miller City community which have helped her new pastor become acclimated to the community. Indeed, I appreciated her sharings and shall miss the wisdom and pride she possessed for the Catholic faith. You can be certain of my continued prayers for her and all in your family these next days and weeks. We have lost one who connected us to our rich heritage. Eternal rest grant unto her, O Lord.
