Janet and family
I was both shocked and deeply saddened to hear of Mike's passing. While we did not see each other much over the years (and especially since my mom died in 2006), we never had any trouble picking up where we left off when it came to conversation about Continental, families and of course sports. I still remember some great times playing golf with Mike at the Kalida golf course, where he told me proudly that you had been the club champ more than once. I also can remember baseball games from Little League (packing over a dozen kids in Mike Gerkens' car on the way to a game) through high school, (district runners up either our junior or senior year) . Mike, Dave Hersh and I were the only three in Janet Meyers' Math class our senior year and the that meant every third question was yours - Mike and I were always glad that Dave could be counted on for answers that escaped us.
I know Mike will be missed not only by his family but by the greater Continental community. Having lived and worked in our special little town his entire life, I know Mike touched the lives of many, many people.
My deepest sympathies to you, your children, grand children and great grand children. I am sure that the love and caring of this wonderful extended family will be a strength to you in the coming days and weeks. You are in my prayers.
