Judge Michael E. O’Malley

     OTTAWA - Judge Michael E. O’Malley, 74, of Ottawa died at 11:40 p.m. Sunday, May 7, 2017 in Naples Community Hospital, Naples, FL.  He was born December 23, 1942 in Camp Taccoa, GA. to the late Dr. Emmett and M. Margaret (Coleman) O’Malley. On June 6, 1970, he married Virginia Ronald and she survives in Ottawa.  Also surviving are 3 children:  Erin (Todd Stratford) O’Malley of Bay Village, OH, Barry O’Malley of Dillon, CO, Devin (Chet) Kreinbrink of Glandorf, OH; 7 grandchildren: Maeve Milligan, Regan Milligan, Liam Stratford, Hayden Stratford, Emma Stratford, Larson Kreinbrink, Vaughn Kreinbrink; 3 sisters:  Patrice (Joseph) Hagan of Little Compton, RI, Maureen Salupo of Youngstown, OH, and Kathrine (Donald) Ross of West Hampton, NY. 

   Judge O’Malley was raised in Cleveland Hts and graduated from Gilmour Academy. He received his BA degree in History from Georgetown Univ.  Washington, DC in 1965;   Juris Doctor from Case Western Reserve Univ. Cleveland, OH  and in 1968 completed graduate studies in Taxation at N Y Univ.  After admittance to practice law in Ohio in 1968, he was appointed Special Agent with the FBI serving in Boston and New York City.  In 1971, Mike returned to Ohio serving as Asst Prosecuting Atty in Cuyahoga and Putnam Counties.  In 1992 he was elected Putnam County, OH County Court Judge, retiring in 2010.

     Mr. O’Malley was a member of Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Ottawa;   Putnam County, Northwest Ohio and Ohio State Bar Associations; Ohio Land Title Assoc, Ohio Assoc of County and Municipal Judges; Society of Former FBI Agents; Past president of the Putnam County Bar Assoc and Ottawa Chamber of Commerce. He was a Fellow, Ohio State Bar Foundation; Past Chairman of the Putnam County Fair Housing Board, past member of the Putnam County Mental Health Clinic Board; Member of the Ottawa Kiwanis Club; Past Grand Knight of the Ottawa Knights of Columbus; Past member of the Putnam County Republican Central Committee and a member of the Ottawa Eagles.

Mike was also an avid sports enthusiast enjoying Tennis, Racquetball, skiing, motorcycle riding taking cross country motorcycle trips for many years.

     A Mass of Christian burial will be said at 12:30 p.m. Saturday, May 13, 2017 at Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church, Ottawa with Fr. Rick Friebel officiating.  Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday from 6 to 8 pm and Friday from 2 to 8 pm at LOVE FUNERAL HOME, Ottawa, OH where a K of C Rosary will be said at 7:30 p.m. Thursday and a Scripture will be held at 7:30 p.m. Friday.

     Memorial may be made to the Putnam County Library; Mazza Museum, Univ of Findlay; or any educational facility of the donor’s choice.
