Nolan G. "Tucker" Shisler

  OAKWOOD - Nolan G. "Tucker" Shisler, 76, of Oakwood, died 8:00 a.m. Saturday, August 20, 2016 at his residence. He was born September 6, 1939 in Oakwood to the late Harley and Dorothy (Crone) Shisler. In 1960 he met LaDonna Dimock and they were married for 56 years, she survives in Oakwood.

   He is survived by two sons: Nick (Dolly) Shisler and Rick Shisler both of Oakwood; a brother: Jack Shisler of Oakwood; two step-granddaughters: Brigette (Sean) Turay, Tiffany (Martin) Booher; and six step-great-grandchildren.

    He was preceded in death by his son: Brian Shisler.

    Tucker graduated from Oakwood High School at the age of 17, spent 2 years in Germany in the Army, serving in a Military Police Unit.

    He became Oakwood's Marshal and Water Works Superintendent at the age of 21 serving for 3 years. At the age of 24 he became manager of the Cooper Turkey Hatchery for 3 years, at which time he attended Reppert School of Auctioneering in Decatur, IN. In the 60's and 70's he along with his brother and father built approximately 25 new houses in and around Oakwood. He became a licensed Auctioneer and Realtor in 1966, and in 1969 became an associate of the Gorrell Bros. Auction Team, for 47 years.

      In 1972 Tucker opened an Insurance office in Paulding and started building, Shisler Insurance, which he operated until 2008, selling out to a cousin, Randy Myers, owner of Leland Smith Insurance. In the last several years he and his family have rehabbed approximately 80 other houses around the area.

   Over the years he served on the Oakwood Village Council, The Oakwood Park Board, was a Master Gardener, and was a member of the Oakwood Development Co. He had been a member of the Ohio Auctioneer Assoc., The Professional Insurance Agents Assoc of Ohio, The Independent Insurance Agents Assoc of Ohio, and was a member and past President of the Paulding County Kiwanis Club, The Paulding County Independent Insurance Agents Assoc., and the Ohio Board of Realtors. 

    A funeral service will begin 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, August 24, 2016 at Heitmeyer Funeral Home, Oakwood with Pastor Terry Porter officiating. Burial will follow in Prairie Chapel Cemetery, Oakwood. Visitation will be Tuesday from 2 to 8 p.m. as well as one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

    The family strongly asks that in lieu of flowers, that donations would be made to a charity of the donor's choice.
