OTTOVILLE - Raymond F. Kaufman, 93, of Ottoville died at 4:00 a.m. Tuesday, February 21, 2017 at St. Rita's Inpatient Hospice, Lima. He was born January 17, 1924 in Ottawa to the late Edward and Veronica (Schroeder) Kaufman. On September 1, 1948 he married Elma C. Miller and she survives in Ottoville.
Also surviving are seven children, Ronald (Kathy) Kaufman of Salem, SC, Barb (Tom) Brinkman of Ottoville, Karen (Rick) Heidenescher of St. Charles, IL, Larry (Tami) Kaufman of Carmel, IN, Dennis (Jacci) Kaufman of Ft. Wayne, IN, Timothy (Linda) Kaufman of Ottoville, and Fr. Kent Kaufman of St. Charles Parish, Lima; sixteen grandchildren; eighteen great-grandchildren; and two sisters-in-law, Rita Kaufman and Margaret Kaufman both of Ottawa. He was also preceded in death by six brothers, Arthur (Ann), Edwin (Helen), Leonard (Ludwina), Urban, Ralph, and Elmer Kaufman and three sisters, Mary Kaufman, Mildred (Vincent) Brinkman, and Bertha (Otto) Gerdeman.
Ray was a 1942 graduate of Sts. Peter and Paul High School, Ottawa. He worked for the family business, Miller Brothers Clay Works, for 35 years until his retirement in 1986 and was the secretary of Ottoville Mutual Telephone Company for 45 years.
Ray was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Ottoville and a member of Knights of Columbus Council 2238, Ottoville. He was a Monterey Township Clerk from 1980-1996, secretary of Ottoville's Volunteer Fire Department for 6 years and taught High School Religious Education at Immaculate Conception Church, Ottoville. Ray enjoyed carpentry and gardening, but most of all spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, February 24, 2017 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Ottoville with his son, Fr. Kent Kaufman officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Ottoville. Visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m. Thursday at LOVE-HEITMEYER FUNERAL HOME, Jackson Township where there will be a scripture service at 7:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Ottoville Immaculate Conception Educational Foundation and to the Stain Glass Window Restoration Project or to St. Rita's Hospice
