OAKWOOD - Roger P. Moore, 80, of Oakwood died at 4:32 a.m. Tuesday, October 3, 2017 at Brookview Care Center, Defiance. He was born June 7, 1937 in Defiance to the late Lowell and Helen (Osborn) Moore. On June 8, 1957 he married his wife of 60 years, Mary K. Brown who survives in Oakwood.
Also surviving are five children, Steve (Susie) Moore of Newark, Patti (Bob) Zimmerman of Continental, Tom Moore of Oakwood, Lisa (Jeff Duryea) Cox of Defiance, and Brian (Brenda Eastman) Moore of Ottawa; twelve grandchildren, Doug, Jill, Rachel Moore, Traci (Scott) Randall, Rob (Lisa) Zimmerman and Eric (Katie) Zimmerman, Kayla and Thomas Moore, Chad Martin, Beth (Mark) Graf, Bailey Danger, and Carter Moore; eleven great-grandchildren; two sisters, Jeanne Bauman of Ayersville and Deb Ballard of West Liberty; and a brother, Mike Moore. He was also preceded in death by a brother, Larry Moore; a son-in-law, Steve Cox; and a daughter-in-law, Deloris Moore.
Roger retired after 42 years from John Manville in Defiance. He was a U.S. Marine veteran of the Korean Conflict. His memberships included Twin Oaks United Methodist Church, Oakwood, the Oakwood American Legion, and the Manville Quarter Century Club. Roger was a former fireman for Oakwood where he was Fire Chief from 1980-1985 and was a former EMT for Oakwood.
A Funeral Service will be held 3:00 p.m. Saturday, October 7, 2017 at HEITMEYER FUNERAL HOME, Oakwood with Gary Frederick officiating. Burial will follow in Prairie Chapel Cemetery, Oakwood with the military rites by the Oakwood American Legion. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until the service at 3 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Oakwood Fire Department.
