Sue Schmenk

   OTTAWA -- Sue Schmenk, 76 of Ottawa died 3:12 p.m. Saturday, October 21, 2017 at her residence.  She was born February 6, 1941 in Leipsic to the late Faye C. and Kathryn (Wilhelm) Diehl.  On January 6, 1962 she married Robert "Bob" Schmenk, who survives in Ottawa.

    Also surviving are 7 children:  Cindy (Fritz) Fortman of Ottawa, Jill (Steve) Kaufman of Ottawa, Craig (Linda) Schmenk of Kalida, Brent (Anne) Schmenk of Frisco, TX, Melissa (Eric) Morman of Findlay, Matt (Dawn) Schmenk of Ottawa and Emily (Troy) Verhoff of Ottawa; 27 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren; a brother:  Dan (Teresa) Diehl of Columbus Grove; 4 sisters:  Maryann Klear of Ottawa, Jeannie (Marty) Kloc of Chacowinity, NC; Sara (Victor) Hernandez of Leipsic, and Deb (Dan Shiarla) Hiegel of Holgate; a brother-in-law:  Ron (Maddie) Sneary of Columbus Grove.

   Sue is preceded in death by a brother: Philip Diehl, Sister: Kathy Sneary; brother-in-law: Norbert Klear; and a granddaughter:  Evelyn Verhoff.

   Sue was a 1959 graduate of Sts. Peter and Paul High School and graduated from the Richard Westin Beauty School in 1960.  She was a homemaker and formerly co-owned the Montgomery Ward Catalog Store, Ottawa. 

   Sue was a member of Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Ottawa.  She was a member of Eagles Auxiliary, American Legion Ladies Auxiliary, and the VFW Auxiliary, all of Ottawa.  She was also a member of the B.P.O. Elks Lodge #54, Lima and the Moose Lodge, Findlay.

   Sue lived for family.  She was a dedicated wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.  Her passions include antiquing, gambling, and above all, babysitting for her many grandchildren and many other families she thought of as her own.

   Mass of Christian Burial will be 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, October 25, 2017 at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Ottawa with Father Rick Friebel officiating.  Burial will follow in the church cemetery.  Visitation will be Tuesday from 2 to 8 p.m. at LOVE FUNERAL HOME, Ottawa where a scripture service will be at 7:50 p.m.
