Velma A. Pope

  Ottawa - Velma A. Pope, 96, of Ottawa died 3:45 a.m. Friday, August 18, 2017 at Hilty Memorial Home, Pandora.  She was born November 5, 1920 in Ottawa to the late Lewis and Ludvina (Moening) Schroeder.  On June 8, 1940, she married George Pope who died July 1, 2001.

   Velma is survived by her children: Julia Pope of Lima, Dorothy Crist of Rawson, Charles Pope of Toledo, Raymond Pope of Columbus, Rose Taylor of Findlay, Mary Pope of Ottawa, Kenneth (Karen) Pope of Pandora, Lewis (Kathy) Pope of Fremont and Dennis Pope of Columbus Grove; a son-in-law: George Poole of Texas and Margaret's partner, Michael Krites of Cridersville; 4 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and a great-great-grandchild.  She also is preceded in death by a son, John Pope; two daughters: Ruth Poole, Margaret Honigford; two sons-in-law: Robert Taylor and Bert Crist; a brother: Clarence Schroeder and three sisters: Irene Westrick, Betty White and Edna Mae McCrate.

   Velma was a homemaker.  She was a member of Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Ottawa.  She loved quilting, gardening and canning.  The family appreciated the care she received from Dr. Houston, the staff  and the nurses at Hilty Home.

   A Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, August 23, 2017 at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Ottawa, with Fr. Matt Jozefiak officiating.  Burial will follow in the church cemetery.   Visitation will be Tuesday, 3 to 8 p.m. at LOVE FUNERAL HOME, Ottawa, where a scripture will be at 7:50 p.m. that evening.

   Memorials may be given to Sts Peter and Paul School Foundation.
