CUBA – Victor R. Verhoff, 88, of Cuba died 12:45 p.m. Tuesday, January 10, 2017 at the family homestead. He was born March 21, 1928 in Cuba to the late Hubert and Mary (Vennekotter) Verhoff. On March 2, 1957 he married Hannelore Westerheide who survives in Cuba.
Also surviving are four sons, Steve (Imogene) Verhoff of Ottawa, Clyde (Carol) Verhoff of Norwalk, Greg (Kris) Verhoff of Ottawa, and Randy (Jayne Merchant) Verhoff of Ft. Loramie; eight grandchildren, Ashley Osmundson, Lindsay Verhoff, Robyn Verhoff, Seth Verhoff, Tyler Verhoff, Cassandra Verhoff, Melissa Verhoff, and Michael Verhoff; two sisters, Dolorosa Schnipke of Glandorf and Mary Jane Youngpeter of Landeck; and a brother, Carl (Berniece) Verhoff of Ottawa. He was also preceded in death by a son, Edward Verhoff; three sisters, Agnes (Robert) Burgei, Alice (Robert) Schroeder, and an infant sister, Dorothea Verhoff; and two brothers-in-law, Othmar Schnipke and Frank Youngpeter.
Victor was a retired farmer. He was a member of St. Isidore Catholic Church, Cuba, St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Glandorf, the Holy Name Society, and the Ottawa Eagles. He loved farming, especially driving the combine at harvest time, German Shepherds, playing euchre, riding motorcycles, and trying his luck at the casinos. Victor loved to solve problems in his metal shop and enjoyed sitting in the sunshine with family and friends.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:00 a.m. Saturday, January 14, 2017 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, 4893 St Rt 634, Continental with Fr. Tony Fortman and Fr. Ken Schnipke officiating. Burial will follow in St. Isidore Cemetery, Cuba. Visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m. on Friday at LOVE FUNERAL HOME, Ottawa and one hour prior to the mass at the church in Continental on Saturday. There will be a scripture service at 1:45 p.m. on Friday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.
