  NEW BAVARIA – Donald J. Schroeder, 66, of New Bavaria, died Wednesday, March 27, 2024 at the University of Toledo Medical Center, Toledo. He was born July 13, 1957 in Lima to the late Donatus and Margaret (Nadler) Schroeder. On September 27, 1980, he married Carol Niese, who survives in New Bavaria.

  Also surviving are two children: Lindsay (Wesley) Hobbs of Troy, Michigan and Emily (Thomas) Lott of Jacksonville, Florida; two grandchildren: Eleanor and Sophia Hobbs; a sister, Linda (James) Kell of Lima; a brother, James (Shirley) Schroeder of Hamler.

  In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by a grandson, Cooper Hobbs.

  Donald spent his life working as a farmer and builder. He was an avid reader, enjoyed woodworking projects and cherished the time he spent with his children and grandchildren. Donald was a lifetime member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, New Bavaria and Knights of Columbus, Napoleon.

  A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, April 2, 2024, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, New Bavaria with Fr. Nick Cunningham officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. on Monday, April 1, 2024, and again on Tuesday, April 2, 2024, from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. at LOVE FUNERAL HOME, Ottawa. A rosary service will begin at 7 p.m. on Monday at the funeral home by the Napoleon Knights of Columbus Council 1344.
