Charles Leonard Bennett Sr.
Charles Leonard Bennett Sr., 80 of Leipsic went to be with Jesus on February 13, 2019 at his home surround by his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. He was born September 20, 1938 to the late Lewis and Helen (Gossman) Bennett. He married the love of his life Glenda (Berger) on October 30, 1962 who lives in Leipsic. They just celebrated 57 wonderful years of marriage together.
He is survived by 7 children Bernie Bennett, Dawn Funk, Michael (Paulette) Bennett, Richard Bennett, Allan Bennett, Brian (Stacey) Bennett, Jami (Brian) Fleck. Charles also had 15 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren. Siblings include Harry Bennett, Linda Goodman, Georgia Salisbury, Janice Siebeneck, Becky Schilperoot and Debra Byrd.
He was preceded in death by a son, Charles Leonard Bennett Jr.; a daughter-in-law, Shelly Bennett; and a sister, Gordia Dean.
At 16, Charles enlisted in the Air Force and was honorably discharged. Charles was an independent truck driver for 42 years. At the end of his career, he drove for Trailer Transit out of Porter, Indiana where he was an owner/operator of his own semi-truck. At age of 74, Charles and his wife Glenda spent almost one year learning about the Catholic faith through the RCIA program. He then was baptized and confirmed Catholic and became a member of St. John The Baptist Catholic Church in Glandorf. He enjoyed working outside and tinkering around the house. He also enjoyed spending time with his family and grandchildren.
The Funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Monday, February 18, 2019 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Glandorf with Father Tony officiating. Burial will follow in the Center Cemetery in Leipsic. Visitation will be Sunday, February 17 from 2-8 p.m. at LOVE-HEITMEYER FUNERAL HOME, Leipsic and from 9 a.m. until mass begins at St. John The Baptist Catholic Church on Monday. There will be a scripture service 1:45 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
