NEW BAVARIA - Donald L. Cox, 83, of New Bavaria died at 12:30 a.m. on Sunday, May 13, 2018 at Mercy Health St. Rita's Medical Center, Lima.
He was born June 20, 1934 in Ottawa to the late Frank and Lilly (Fry) Cox. On October 21, 1961, he married Ilo Mae Klear who died on February 12, 2005.
Survivors include 4 children, Pamela (Michael) Hoover of Napoleon, Jeffrey Cox of Holgate, Michelle (Douglas) Schwiebert of Hamler, and Calvin "Casey" (Tricia) Cox of Findlay; 16 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren, several foster grandchildren; 2 brothers, Robert (Jean) Cox of Ottawa and James (Janet) Cox of Findlay; a half-sister, Andrea Long of Lima; two sisters-in-law, Dorothy Cox of Ottawa and Mona Cox of Lima; many nieces and nephews; and his dog, Schree. He was preceded in death by a daughter-in-law, Julie Cox; 2 brothers, John and Wilford Cox; a sister, Nancy Cox; and 6 sisters and their husbands, Thelma (Donald) Hardwick, Zelma (Robert) Dickey, Betty (Walter) Titus, Mary (Wayne) Patrick, Marie (Orville) Dickey, and Ella Mae (John) Hazelton.
Donald retired from General Motors, Defiance and was an Army Veteran. He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, New Bavaria, Ottawa Knights of Columbus 4th Degree, New Bavaria Fire Department, U.A.W. Local 211, Hamler American Legion Post 262, New Bavaria V.F.W. Post 8847 and AMVETS Post 599, and Ottawa Eagles #2234. He was past Grand Knight of Holgate Council of Knights of Columbus. He was a Chicago Cubs fan and loved to camp.
Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, May 17, 2018 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, New Bavaria with Fr. Nick Cunningham officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with military rites by the Hamler American Legion, New Bavaria VFW, and AMVETS. Visitation will be Wednesday from 2 to 8 p.m. and one hour prior to departing for Mass on Thursday at LOVE FUNERAL HOME, Ottawa where a Rosary Service will be held at 7:45 p.m. on Wednesday.
