FT. JENNINGS - Elmer Henry Calvelage, 81, of Ft. Jennings died at 9:30 p.m. Saturday, April 29, 2017 at The Meadows of Kalida. He was born March 1, 1936 in Ft. Jennings to the late Jacob and Clara (Beckman) Calvelage. On October 22, 1977 he married Barbara Switzer who survives in Ft. Jennings.
He is also survived by his sisters, Mabel Berelsman of Ft. Jennings; three nephews, Tony, Tom, Gary Berelsman; and five nieces, Sue Fike, Diane Osting, Jackie Siefker, Janet Freisthler, and Jean Heitzman. He was preceded in death by a brother-in-law, Albert Berelsman.
Elmer was a farmer and drove truck for Gary Wiechart and LP Vetter. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Ft. Jennings and was a US Army veteran of the Korean Conflict. He was a member of Middle Point AM VETS, Delphos Eagles, and Van Wert's American Legion.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, May 3, 2017 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Ft. Jennings with Fr. Jerome Schetter officiating. Burial will follow in Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Ft. Jennings with military rites by the Ft. Jennings American Legion. Visitation will be from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday at LOVE-HEITMEYER FUNERAL HOME, Jackson Township and from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday at church. There will be a scripture service at 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday at the funeral home.
