EUNICE M. BROOKS
Eunice May Brooks, 97, died Wednesday June 6, 2018 at Defiance Mercy Hospital after a brief stay. She had been in failing health for a few years. A lifetime resident of Putnam County, she had lived by herself since the passing of her husband of 49 years Richard E. Brooks in 1998.
She was born in Defiance, OH on December 29, 1920, the daughter of Bertie C. and Edna G. Schubert, both deceased. Preceding her in death were 8 siblings, brothers Virgil, Alvin, Lester, Wilbur and infant Harold, sisters Mary Schafer, Dorothy Rejiester and infant Martha.
She is survived by two sons, Ron (Sharon) of Pittsburgh, PA and Paul (Kathy) of Findlay, OH; five grandchildren, Kevin (Tracy) of Toledo, OH, Kris (Amanda) of Pittsburgh, PA, Adam (Jenni ) of FT. Wayne, IN, Rachael (Derrick) of Toledo, and Josh of Toledo; as well as 9 great-grandchildren
She graduated from Oakwood High School; was a Putnam County 4-H leader for many years; member of North Creek United Methodist Church serving on many committees and leadership roles; member of The Gideon's International Auxiliary – Defiance Camp for over 45 years; former co-owner of Tastee-Freeze in Defiance, OH; operated a jewelry business; and worked many part time jobs earlier in her life.
She enjoyed a large garden and talking with friends or relatives. She played a mean game of Skip-Bo. She also claimed that Scrabble kept her mind sharp. Nearly every child in the neighborhood called her “Grandma” and she often played “Where’s the Button” when babysitting with them. Her greatest joys were her grandchildren, her great-grandchildren and her faith in God.
