  GLANDORF - Gordon A. "Gordy" Verhoff, 69, of Glandorf died Monday, April 10, 2017 at his residence.  He was born September 8, 1947 in Lima to the late Alfred and Mary (Karhoff) Verhoff.  On April 18, 1970, he married Sharon Otto and she survives in Glandorf.

  Also surviving are six children: Jill (Glenn) Kaufman, Kim (Roy) Schroeder, Scott (Kelly) Verhoff, Renee (Dan) Bockrath, Stacy (Nicholas) Miller and Darcy (Kyle) Schroeder all of Glandorf; sixteen grandchildren: Emily, Jeremy, Jay and Will Kaufman, Claire, Mitchel and Chloe Schroeder, Max, Mallory and Mason Verhoff, Cody, Mylie and Bella Bockrath and Kamryn, Hayden, Kinley Schroeder and one on the way; three siblings: Mary Ann Siebeneck of Leipsic, Leroy (Janet) Verhoff of Glandorf and Darlene Verhoff of Chandler, AZ; and a sister-in-law, Kate Verhoff of Ottawa.

  He was also preceded in death by three siblings: Patricia (Eugene "Dude") Schroeder, Mel Verhoff and Dennis Verhoff; and a brother-in-law, Larry Siebeneck.

  Gordy retired from General Motors in Defiance. He served in the Vietnam War from 1966 to 1968. He coached with great pride Junior High Girls Basketball for 20 years at Glandorf Elementary and High School Girls Summer Softball shaping the lives of many.

   He was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Glandorf, its Men's Society, and St. Isidore Holy Name. He was also a member of Ottawa VFW, Ottawa American Legion, Ottawa Eagles, and the Glandorf Rod and Gun.

   Gordy was a dedicated husband, father, grandfather, coach, farmer, and sports advocate. He was a leader by example, being a role model for his children and grandchildren teaching them the value of hard work. His smile, sense of humor, wittiness, orneriness, love of sports, and especially the love he had for his family and friends will be greatly missed.

   A Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:00 a.m. Monday, April 17, 2017 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Glandorf with Fr. Tony Fortman officiating. Burial will follow in St. Isidore Cemetery, Cuba, OH with military rites by the Ottawa American Legion, VFW, and Am Vets. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. on Friday and 2 to 8 p.m. on Saturday at LOVE FUNERAL HOME, Ottawa. A VFW service will begin at 6:00 p.m. and a rosary at 7:30 both Saturday at the funeral home.
