James Hamilton Treece
DEFIANCE – James Hamilton Treece, 84, of Defiance, formerly of Continental, passed away at 3:15 a.m. Tuesday, June 11, 2019 at the Defiance Area Inpatient Hospice. He was born to the late O.C. and Ann C. (Spoerl) Treece. On August 17, 1957 he married Marjorie Enyart who died December 22, 2013.
He is survived by three children, Tamara (Larry) Hoxie of Garner, NC, Nancy Treece Thompson of Benton Harbor, MI, and Thomas Treece of Defiance; six grandsons; one granddaughter; two great-grandsons and one on-the-way; one great-granddaughter; and a sister, Virginia (Rev. William) Hutflies of Bowling Green.
James was a retired educator from Continental Local School. He was a longtime member and Sunday School teacher at the Dupont Church of the Brethren. He was also a member of the Alumni Varsity D at Defiance College. James volunteered in the 1837 school house at Sauder’s Historic Village and was a longtime village director at YMCA Storer Camps in Napoleon, MI.
Funeral services will be 12:30 p.m. on Saturday, June 15, 2019 at HEITMEYER FUNERAL HOME, Continental with Rev. Terry Porter officiating. Burial will follow in Monroe Cemetery, Continental. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until the time of service on Saturday at the funeral home.
