Melvin J. "Mel" Utendorf

    OTTAWA -- Melvin J. "Mel" Utendorf, 58, died 5:03 p.m. Saturday, December 30, 2017 at St. Rita's Medical Center, Lima.  He was born January 15, 1959 in Lima to Joseph and Edna (Dulle) Utendorf.  His father is deceased and his mother survives in Ottawa.  On May 14, 1983 he married Lori Wolke, who survives.

    He is also survived by 3 daughters:  Tracy (Terry) Gerken of Leipsic, Jennifer Utendorf of Ottawa and Sarah Utendorf of Ottawa; 2 grandsons:  Trevor and Travis Gerken; 4 brothers:  Richard (Vickie) Utendorf of Kalida, Ben (Brenda) Utendorf of Ottawa, Lawrence (Joyce) Utendorf of Lima and Eugene Utendorf of Ottawa; and 3 sisters:  Ruth (Duane) Achors of Ottawa, Marcella Utendorf of Ottawa and Joan (James) Lammers of Leipsic.

    Mel worked for Goodwill Services and formerly worked for Philips ECG, Ottawa for 27 years.  He was a member of Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Ottawa.  He loved the Buckeyes, Ford tractors and his ball caps.  He enjoyed farming and both watching and reading westerns; but, above all he loved his grandsons.

    Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, January 3, 2017 at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church with Father Matt Jozefiak officiating.  Burial will follow in Harman Cemetery, Gilboa.  Visitation will be Tuesday from 2 to 8 p.m. at LOVE FUNERAL HOME, Ottawa where a rosary service will be held at 7:50 p.m.

    Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of the donor's choice.
