Paul G. Schmidt

   CONTINENTAL - Paul G. Schmidt, 91, of Continental died at 9:46 a.m. Wednesday, April 11, 2018 at the Defiance Inpatient Hospice. He was born June 4, 1926 in Continental to the late Roy and Erma (Britsch) Schmidt. On April 23, 1949 he married Marie Jane Unverferth who died February 22, 2012.

   Surviving are 6 children: Judy (Dave) Rau and Janet (Bob) Liffick both of Defiance, Joan (Denny) Hedrick of Continental, Jim (Karen) Schmidt of Hicksville, Jean (Rob) Carr of Defiance and John (Tonya) Schmidt of Continental; 15 grandchildren: Tod (Amy) Liffick, Tisha Rau- Tingle (Kevin), Mindy Liffick, Kendra (Jason) Timmerman, Jordan (Alicia) Carr, Curt Hedrick, Justin (Danette) Carr, Preston (Stacy) Carr, Cobin (Ryan) Vennekotter, Nathan (Allison) Schmidt, Kelsey (Taylor) Klepper, Damon (Erin) Schmidt, Karley (Taylor) Brown, Austin Carr, Brandon Schmidt; and 17 great-grandchildren. He was also preceded in death by a brother, Gareth (Zelma) Schmidt and 2 sisters, Phyllis (Lester) Shafer and Nida Schmidt.

   Paul retired from Mark Moats Ford in Defiance as Parts Manager and former owner of Schmidt Hardware in Continental. He was a member of Christ United Methodist Church, Continental and the  VMCCA - Three Rivers Antique Car Club. Paul enjoyed yard work and restoring antique cars and was an avid fan of the Detroit Tigers and Continental Pirates. He never missed a grandchild's or great-grandchild's event.

   Funeral Services will be 2:00 p.m. Saturday, April 14, 2018 at Christ United Methodist Church, Continental with Rev. Charles Schmunk officiating. Burial will follow in Monroe Cemetery, Continental. Visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m. on Friday at HEITMEYER FUNERAL HOME, Continental.

   In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Christ United Methodist Church or to the Defiance Inpatient Hospice.
