Richard C. Michel
OTTAWA - Richard C. Michel, 87, of Ottawa, died at 2:50 a.m. Wednesday, December 5, 2018 at The Meadows of Ottawa. He was born March 11, 1931 in Ottawa to the late August and Selina (Boerger) Michel. On January 14, 1956 he married Mary Ann Liebrecht and she survives in Ottawa. Also surviving are 4 children: David L. (Janice) Michel of West Liberty, Kathleen S. (Lyle) Burkholder of Pandora, Robert A. (Michele) Michel of Columbus Grove, Larry D. Michel of Pandora; 5 grandchildren: Jennifer (Trey) Richardson, Ryan (Kelli) Burkholder, Shawn Burkholder, Seth (Julianne) Burkholder, Amber Michel; 6 great-grandchildren: Zoey Richardson, Emma Richardson, Kaitlyn Burkholder, Matt Burkholder, Grace Burkholder, Leo Burkholder; 3 sisters: Rita Warnimont of Miller City, Lauretta Foughty of Columbus Grove, Edith Kleman of Continental and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death also by 5 siblings and their spouses: Francis (Estella) Michel, Clair (Evelyn) Michel, Grace (Len) Bendele, Paul (Betty) Michel, Harry (Dorothy) Michel and 3 brothers-in-law: Bill Warnimont, John Foughty and Paul Kleman.
Richard retired after 40 years with the former Philips of Ottawa where he was a Production Supervisor. He was a Staff Sgt. in the army specializing in artillery during the Korean Conflict. He was a member of Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Ottawa; attended Ottawa High School; was a member of the Ottawa Eagles, Ottawa American Legion and Ottawa VFW. He enjoyed morel mushroom hunting, gardening and playing cards, especially euchre.
A Mass of Christian burial will begin at 10:00 a.m. Monday, December 10, 2018, at Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church with Fr. Rick Friebel officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with military rights by the Ottawa American Legion and VFW. Visitation will be 2:00 to 8:00 p.m. Sunday, at LOVE FUNERAL HOME, Ottawa. A VFW service will be 7:00 p.m. Sunday followed by a scripture service at 7:50 p.m.
