Robert Ray Northrop
OTTAWA - Robert Ray Northrop, 86, of Ottawa died 12:02 p.m., Friday, February 15, 2019 at his home. He was born February 1, 1933 in Charleston, IL to the late George and Florence (English) Northrop. On November 29, 1952, he married Betty Timmons, who preceded him in death on August 19, 1991. He then married Ruth Hageman on December 6, 1997 and she preceded him in death on July 28, 1999.
Survivors include three children: Sonia Deverall, Glen Northrop and Janice (David) Kohls; four grandchildren: Ashley Kohls, Chad Kohls, Dana Kohls and Brittany Kohls; a brother, Kenneth Northrop; a brother in law, Don Rupe, and a significant other, Diane McGinn.
He was also preceded in death by a brother, George Northrop and a sister, Jean Rupe.
Robert served four years in the Navy from 1952-1956. After being discharged from the Navy, he attended Purdue University and graduated with a degree in Electrical Engineering in 1960. He began his career with Sylvania, which later became Philips Display Components formerly of Ottawa, and retired in 1990. While still working, he enjoyed spending every weekend at his cottage on Long Lake, MI. He loved fishing, boating and just relaxing there. Robert also enjoyed reading, anything electronic and communicating through Ham Radio. He talked to people all over the world. He was also a member of the Ottawa Eagles.
Funeral service will begin at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, February 19, 2019 at LOVE FUNERAL HOME, Ottawa. Burial will follow in Sugar Ridge Cemetery, Leipsic, with military rights by Ottawa VFW, American Legion and AMVETS. Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service Tuesday at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Putnam County Home Health and Hospice.
