Robert E. Steingass

  Leipsic - Robert E. Steingass, 84, of Leipsic passed away at 6:30 a.m. Saturday, March 3, 2018 at the Meadows of Leipsic.  He was born on May 21, 1933 in Putnam County, Ohio to the late Herman and Bessie (Hoffman) Steingass.  On January 7, 1983, he married Patti Sudlow who survives in Leipsic.

  Bob is also survived by six children: Mark (Dorianne) Steingass of Miamisburg, Jon (Joel Groover) Steingass of Toledo, Tim (Julia) Steingass of Sylvania, Chris Steingass of Toledo, Kelly (Jim) Dunham and Deanna Dillinger all of Leipsic; 15 grandchildren; a great-grandchild; 2 step great-grandchildren; a brother, Glen (Janet) Steingass of Leipsic; a sister, Dianna (Mike) Greer of Ottawa; and a brother-in-law, Ed Dimock of Napoleon.          He is also preceded in death by a daughter, Dawn Dillinger; a sister, Carolyn Dimock; and a daughter-in-law, Jenny Steingass.

   Bob started his career with Libby, McNeil and Libby, Leipsic.  Then in 1964, he worked at Craig Tomato Sales, Ohio; 1974 as plant superintendent for Libby, McNeil, and Libby, Leipsic; 1984 as plant superintendent for Kern Foods, California; 1987 as plant superintendent for Nestlé's, New York; and 1988 to 1998 worked for Consolidated Biscuit, McComb.  Bob was mayor of Leipsic from 2000 to 2003, on the Leipsic Town Council for 8 years, Leipsic volunteer fireman for 21 years and on the Putnam County EMS.  Bob was a Staff Sergeant U.S. Air Force Veteran of the Korean Conflict, member of the Leipsic VFW and First Christian Church, Leipsic.

   Visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, March 6, 2018 at  LOVE-HEITMEYER FUNERAL HOME, Leipsic. A private service will be held with military rites by the Leipsic VFW and burial will be at a later date in Sugar Ridge Cemetery, Leipsic.

   Memorials may be made to the First Christian Church, Leipsic or to the Putnam County Hospice.
