Robert "Bob" Tenwalde
OTTAWA -Robert (Bob) Tenwalde, resident of Ottawa, Ohio, died peacefully on June 22, 2017 at the age of 90.
Bob is survived by his wife, Vera and his children Carol (Richard) Kortez, Gary (Pamela) Tenwalde and Michelle (Scott) Downing. He was preceded in death by his son Mark and grandson Steven. Bob has 7 grandchildren, Erica, Robert, Addison, Eve Maria, Lee, Johnothon and Angela; 4 step grandchildren; 4 step great-grandchildren; and a daughter-in-law, Theresa Tenwalde.
Bob was born in Ottawa on December 4, 1926 to Magdeline (Meyer) and Jacob "Jake" Tenwalde and had an older sister Helen Blizman. At 18 he joined the Army and just recently was honored with his 70th Year of Military Service Medal from the American Legion. Upon returning from the war, on May 28, 1949 he married Vera Altenburger, a banking manager and his true love and she survives in Ottawa.
Between Bob’s building and creative talents and Vera’s wizardry with numbers, they cobbled together a successful building and construction business, Tenwalde Builders. Bob was well-known as a very fair, honest and skilled businessman with a great sense of humor and was a wicked card player. Bob had many proud accomplishments but his most recent was, at the age of 85, replacing the roof on their residence with the help of his grandson Robert. Bob was the original Mister Fix It and will be sorely missed by all who knew and loved him. Bob’s memory will live on with the retelling of his funny and amazing life stories, his many friends and his dear family.
