I likely met Willie at a very young age watching softball. Later we crossed paths working at Pike Run. One of the most humbling personalities I have ever been blessed to meet. Prayers to the family. A great man..

So sorry to hear about Willie's passing. We will be sending extra thoughts and prayers your way this week.
I just wanted you all to know that I always enjoyed and appreciated all the extra hours he spent with me on the softball field throughout high school and college. It truly meant a lot to me, and we always had a great time! We spent so much time hitting and fielding grounders, and never tired of it. It was evident how much he loved the game and wanted me to succeed. He will surely be missed.

Shirley, Dave, Dan and Kay: I am so sorry that Willie has left so soon. I loved to talk baseball with Willie at the golf course. My first contact was with Willie on the softball diamonds of Putnam County back in the late 1960s and early 1970s. Teams that I played on would rarely defeat his teams so we got him, Elmer, Horse and Larry Burkhart to play for us at Mac and Rita's. He was such a great player, always had a smile, never got 'mad' and ALL the teams in that era wanted him on their team. I remember the boys coming to all the games when they were young. Now that I am remembering, however, I do remember ONE time he got angry. We were playing Black Angus, and Bob Gerdeman from Kalida, slid into first base trying to take Willie out. After the slide, WIllie, threw the ball at him while he was still on the ground! Elmer used to say that throwing the ball to Willie at first was like throwing it in the ocean - no matter how bad or good the throw, he was going to catch it. I remember coaching against Willie and OG when the boys were playing. I can't remember how many dollar bills I lost to him and Elmer playing jarts. He was such a great friend - I will miss him greatly. So sorry for your loss.
