Alan Edward Klemm

GLANDORF - Alan Edward Klemm, beloved father, grandfather, great-grandfather, passed away at 7:45 a.m. at The Meadows of Ottawa on February 6, 2021 at the age of 93.  Alan was born on January 31, 1928 in Columbus, Ohio to Robert and Mary Ann (Craft) Klemm. On July 14, 2001, he married Jane (Wisniewski) Klemm who survives in Glandorf. He fondly recalled many summers as a child with family along the Ohio River. While living with his uncle and his beloved Aunt Lottie (Charlotte) he sold newspapers on the city streets in the 1930’s to help his family.

He excelled in baseball and other sports in high school and graduated one year early as president of his class. He entered the Army soon after to serve his country during WWII.

On June 17, 1950, Alan married Geraldine L. Schmenk in Glandorf, Ohio. He worked at Ohio Steel, then Ford Motor Company, both in Lima. He was a metallurgist, chemist, and laboratory supervisor during his thirty-three plus years at Ford. He retired early to take care of his wife Gerry, who passed away on February 8, 2000.

Alan and Gerry have eight children; Mike deceased (Wendy) Klemm of Florida, Julie Fortman of Colorado, Amy Bruskotter of Nevada, Jill Klemm, Steve (Cindy) Klemm, Brian Klemm, Eric (Beth) Klemm and Chris (Jenny) Klemm all of Ohio;  a sister, Karolyn (Terry) Yoakum of Westerville. He will also be missed by his thirteen grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren along with forty plus nieces and nephews throughout the United States.

Alan instilled the “hard work will be rewarded” ethic in all of his children. He always made time to play ball or take his kids fishing in spite of his long work hours. He loved golfing with his friends and enjoyed making golf clubs for friends and family. There were many wonderful vacations to the family A-frame in the Michigan’s U.P. and many other places.  An avid sports fan, Al loved traveling to Ottawa-Glandorf Titan basketball and football games with his buddies. A proud member of the Ottawa Eagles and Ottawa V.F.W, he enjoyed making friends and taking care of others.

  Go Buckeyes!

A very special thanks to the staff at The Meadows of Ottawa and Dave and Nancy Brinkman of Glandorf who provided love and care for him and his family.
