NEW CLEVELAND – Carl Arnold Gable, 80, of New Cleveland passed away from pancreatic cancer at 9:28 p.m., Monday, January 18, 2021 at Mercy Health St. Rita’s Medical Center, Lima.
He was born June 29th, 1940, in New Cleveland to Edward and Florence (Recker) Gable who preceded him in death. Carl is survived by his wife, Christine (Fruth) Gable of Ottawa. They were married on November 28, 1991.
He is also survived by eight children: Greg and Sue Gable (Ottoville), Dave and Donna Gable (Miller City), Becky (Gable) Giblin (Ottawa), Dan and Carrie Gable (Miller City) and their mother is Janet (Alt) Gable. As well as Jenny and Bryon Kent (Tiffin), Jeremy Kessler and Kasie Fleming (Republic), Jessica and Brian Wagler, (Leipsic), Joe and Tiffany Burlile (Leipsic) and their mother is Christine (Fruth) Gable.
Carl and Christine also have 21 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild.
Carl graduated from Miller City-New Cleveland High School in 1958. Following graduation, he worked six years at Allied-Egry in Leipsic. Carl then took a job at General Motors (GM) in Defiance where he later joined the journeyman program. He eventually became a millwright and continued to work at GM for 25 years. Carl retired from General Motors in May 1990. He was a member of the Columbus Grove American Legion, Ottawa Knights of Columbus, and Ottawa Eagles.
Additionally, Carl had a profound respect for the flag and a deep appreciation for our country. He was a patriot who believed that the United States of America is the greatest nation on earth. Carl was an Army veteran who served as a member of the Ohio National Guard, United States Army 148th Infantry from 1961-1967. His rank was SP4 and his specialty was a Rifleman/Mortarman.
As for hobbies, Carl loved to go deer hunting and spend time with his family at Hemlock Lake in Reading, Michigan. He also enjoyed gardening, cooking, and baking at their farm in rural Ottawa. Carl frequently entertained others with his contagious personality, wit, and humor (mixed with a hint of sarcasm). He rarely missed an opportunity to deliver an epic punch line and…never drank, unless he was alone or with someone.
A loving Husband, Father, Grandfather, and Patriot…you will be missed Popsie…For God and Country!
