Charles I. Crawfis
OTTAWA – Charles I. Crawfis, 92, of Ottawa, passed away surrounded by his family at 2:15 p.m. on Wednesday, May 10, 2023, at the Meadows of Leipsic. He was born May 31, 1930, in Riley Township, Ohio to the late Dale and Fannie (Conine) Crawfis. On July 1, 1951, he married Eloise Burner, she preceded him in death on April 27, 2020.
Charles is survived by six children: Jill (Jon) Hilty of Pandora, Tony (Connie) Crawfis of Ottawa, Cathy (Roy) Hermiller of Pandora, Amy (Steve) Gerten, Ann (Norman) Gerten, and Melissa (Al) Maag, all of Leipsic; fifteen grandchildren; twenty-seven great-grandchildren with one on the way.
He is preceded in death by three sisters: Betty Mae (David) Amstutz, Lib (Robert) Pingle and Dorothea (Reed) Radabaugh and a great-grandson Seth Long.
Charles graduated from Blanchard High School. He was a U.S. Army veteran, serving in the Korean War. Charles was a lifelong farmer. He also enjoyed going to his grandkids and great grandkids sporting events. He was a member of the Harter Williams Gilboa American Legion and the Gilboa United Methodist Church.
Funeral services will begin 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, May 16, 2023, at LOVE-HEITMEYER FUNERAL HOME, Leipsic with Pastor Ruth Carter-Crist officiating. Burial will follow at Harman Cemetery, Gilboa with military rites by Gilboa American Legion. A visitation will be held on Monday from 3 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home and one hour prior to the service on Tuesday.
