Delbert “Del” Westrick
OTTAWA – Delbert “Del” Westrick, 87, of Ottawa passed away peacefully at 4:47 p.m. on Friday, August 11, 2023 at Bridge Hospice, Findlay, surrounded by his family. He was born September 17, 1935 in Putnam County to the late Adam and Alfreda (Eiden) Westrick. On October 5, 1957 he married the love of his life, Marilyn D. Scheckelhoff. She died December 9, 2020.
Survivors include three children: Randy (Lisa) Westrick, Michelle (Jeff) Stechschulte, both of Ottawa and Craig (Karyn) Westrick of Leipsic; five grandchildren: Lindsay (Brian) Bradbee, Paige (Travis) Frey, Matthew (Lauren) Stechschulte, Brittany (Austin) Hawley, and Emily Westrick; eight great-grandchildren: Nye, Truman and Alvie Bradbee, Cameron and Luca Frey, Ava and Callie Stechschulte and Leif Hawley; a brother, Raymond (Kathy) Westrick; and a sister, Regina (Earl) Scheckelhoff.
He was also preceded in death by a daughter: Lana K. Westrick; and a brother, Vincent Westrick.
Del and Marilyn operated Westrick Realty for many years. He served in the US Army as a forward observer. Delbert was a member of Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Ottawa and Country Colonels band for nearly 25 years entertaining for many weddings and dances. He loved playing cards, fishing, and was known for his endless storytelling, tall tales and folklore from younger years. Del’s upbeat personality after a debilitating physical impairment for nearly 30 years was an inspiration to family and friends. He will be greatly missed by all.
Per Del’s wishes, there will be a private funeral service and burial at a later date.
