 OAKWOOD - Dennis Wayne Bennett, 64, of rural Oakwood, Ohio, passed away on Thursday, November 16, 2023 at home with his family. He was born March 18, 1959, in Defiance, to Jack Bennett and Alice (Ward) Bennett Johnson.
  Dennis graduated from Paulding High School in 1977 having excelled at basketball, FFA and Vo-Ag. He worked 14 years at General Motors Central Foundry, 21 years as Manager/Lead Cook at The Cabbage Patch Restaurant and ended his career as a Commercial Truck Driver, retiring in May of 2023 from DC5 Trucking in Defiance, Ohio. He coached his daughter's softball teams for 10 years, both at Auglaize Ball Park and with Defiance Softball Association at Diehl Park. He donated countless hours to both programs, building dugouts, concession stands, and maintenance of all kinds. He was a true outdoorsman, being an avid fisherman and hunter, especially of deer. He was also an expert home butcher. He enjoyed having a big vegetable garden every year and annually utilized his family's antique cider press with friends and family.
He loved making homemade noodles and baking pies for everyone.
  Dennis is survived by his mother, Alice, daughter, Kathryn Riehle, mother of his daughter, Laura Riehle, niece, Sabrina Roth, her husband, Tommy and their son, Bode, nephew, Jason Shaffer, his wife, Rachelle and their children, Joe (Alexis) Shaffer, Kaitlyn Shaffer (Kira Kammayer) and brother-in-law, Danny Shaffer. He is preceded by his father, Jack, his stepdad, Ralph Johnson, his sister, Julie Shaffer and his brother, Roger Bennett.
  Funeral Services for Dennis will begin at 4:00 p.m., Saturday, December 2, 2023 at HEITMEYER FUNERAL HOME, Oakwood, with Pastor Stan Harmon officiating.  Visitation will be held from 2 - 4 p.m. prior to the service on Saturday at the funeral home. A celebration meal at Auglaize Chapel Church of God Fellowship Hall, 22597 Road 60, Oakwood, Ohio 45873 will follow.
