Donald L. Beutler
OTTAWA – Donald L. Beutler, 87, passed way in Ottawa, Ohio on March 21, 2023. He was born to Joseph and Philomena (Morman) Beutler (both deceased) on May 24, 1935. On July 18, 1959, he married Leona Martin and she passed away on August 25, 1961. On February 12, 1966, he married Carol Baldwin and she passed away on December 3, 2016 after 51 years of marriage. On June 9, 2018 he married Connie Morrison, who survives.
Donald served his country in the Army/National Guard during the Korean War era. He worked for Rosie’s Sohio Gas Station in Ottawa for 11 years and then spent 33 years at the West Ohio/Dominion Gas Company from which he retired.
One of his greatest loves was old country music. He played guitar and sang with the Ridgewood Ramblers for 20 years and off and on with other local bands. He continued to perform at open-mic jams around the area until 2019.
He was an avid gardener and euchre player. He attended many tractor shows and proudly displayed his Power King tractor that he restored at several shows.
He was a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) and American Legion where he participated in parades, military funerals, calling bingo and many other activities. He was also a member of the Eagles, Ottawa Senior Center and Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church. For the last 6 years, he also attended the Ottawa Missionary Church.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons: Glen Beutler of Ottawa and Tony (Lori) Beutler of Gilroy, California; three grandchildren: Steven (Amanda) Beutler of Tiffin, Jessica (Scott) Wischmeyer of Ottawa, and David (Heather) Beutler of Findlay; six great grandchildren: Hayden, Haley and Henry Beutler, Myra Frey, and Greyson and Hadley Herzog; and one sister, Ruth Hohenbrink.
In addition to his parents and two wives, he was predeceased by two brothers: Robert (Mary Lou) and Joseph (Becky) Beutler. Plus numerous brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law from his first and second marriages.
Funeral Mass will begin at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 25, 2023 at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Ottawa with Fr. Scott Kramer officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with military rites by the Ottawa VFW, American Legion, AMVETS and DAV. Visitation will be held from 2 – 8 p.m. on Friday and on Saturday one hour prior to Mass at LOVE FUNERAL HOME, Ottawa. A rosary service will be held at 7:30 p.m. on Friday at the funeral home.
Memorial donations may be given to the American Red Cross or Ottawa Senior Center.
