Dwight James Ordway

  OAKWOOD – Dwight James Ordway, 94, of Oakwood, passed away at 1:30 a.m. on February 1, 2023, at St. Vincent Hospital, Toledo.  He was born November 23, 1928, in Ypsilanti, MI. to the late Floyd and Inez (Porterfield) Ordway.  On January 28, 1950, he married Thelma Harvey, who survives in Oakwood.

  Dwight leaves behind his loving wife of 73 years Thelma Ordway; along with his children: Judy (Dave) Fohner of Oakwood, Danny Ordway of Defiance, Dr. Gregory (Theresa Tellez) Ordway of Johnson City, TN.; eight grandchildren; thirteen great-grandchildren; and a sister: Donna (Denny) Brecht of Continental.

  He is preceded in death by three brothers, Dewey (Jean) Ordway, Lloyd (Beryl) Ordway, and Leo Ordway, and three sisters, Verna Matthews, Faye (George) Scott, and Alice Tipton.

  At age 17, Dwight enlisted in the U.S. Army where he served in Japan for three years.  He retired from General Motors after 35 years and was the owner of Dwight’s Orchard.  He was a member of the Twin Oaks United Methodist Church, Oakwood.  Dwight was a wonderful husband and father, and he loved his grandchildren dearly.

  Funeral service will be begin at 12:00 p.m. on Tuesday, February 7, 2023 at HEITEMEYER FUNERAL HOME, Oakwood with Bud Larimore officiating.  Burial with military rites will follow in Sherman Cemetery, Oakwood. A visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m. until the time of service at the funeral home.

  Memorial donations may be made to American Cancer Society.
