Edwin G. Steffan
LEIPSIC – Edwin G. Steffan, 95, of Leipsic died 2:56 a.m., Thursday, October 7, 2021 at Bridge Hospice, Findlay. He was born April 14, 1926 to the late Lawrence and Agnes (Meyer) Steffan. On August 10, 1949, he married Mary Frances Borgelt. She preceded him in death on March 18, 1984.
Survivors include ten children: Gary Steffan of Leipsic, Susan (Dan) Knippen of Ft. Jennings, Karl (Elaine) Steffan of Leipsic, Duane (Barb) Steffan of Kalida, Ron (Karen) Steffan of Leipsic, Dave (Geri) Steffan of Leipsic, Barb (Mark) Wilhelm of Deshler, Jeff (Beth) Steffan of Leipsic, Cindy (Roger) Maag of Leipsic, Annette (Tom) Brown of Leipsic; 32 grandchildren; 47 great-grandchildren with three on the way; and a sister-in-law, Teresa Borgelt.
He was also preceded in death by an infant son, Kenneth Steffan; one grandchild; one great-grandchild; and four siblings: Helen Kaufman, Art Steffan, Clem Steffan and an infant twin brother, Karl.
Edwin was a lifelong farmer and manager at the Shawtown Elevator. He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Leipsic. Edwin was also a World War II Army veteran who served in the armored division as Corporal where he earned the Combat Infantry Badge as well as Bronze Star among other awards. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend.
Funeral Mass will begin at 10:30 a.m., Monday, October 11, 2021 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Leipsic with Father George Wenzinger officiating. Burial will follow at the church cemetery with graveside military rites by the Leipsic V.F.W., American Legion and AMVETS. Visitation will be 2 – 8 p.m. Sunday at LOVE-HEITMEYER FUNERAL HOME, Leipsic, with a rosary service at 7:30 p.m. Visitation will also be one hour prior to Mass on Monday at the St. Mary’s Parish Life Center, Leipsic.
