Elsie L. Goodwin
LEIPSIC – Elsie L. Goodwin, 90, of Leipsic, died at 11:50 p.m., Saturday, August 26, 2023 at The Meadows of Leipsic. She was born July 21, 1933 in Deshler to the late Carl and Dorothea (Newell) Kern. On June 29, 1952, she married Earl Goodwin at Oakdale United Methodist Church. They were married for 61 years before he passed away on November 16, 2013.
Surviving are two children: Pamela (Jeff) Oglesbee of Columbus Grove and David (Elaine) Goodwin of Leipsic; 6 grandchildren: Mathew (Sherri) Oglesbee, Michael Oglesbee, Jason (Amanda) Goodwin, Neil (Amanda) Goodwin, Brian (Alex) Goodwin and Emily Goodwin; 11 great-grandchildren; a brother, William Kern of Deshler; a brother-in-law, Roy Goodwin of Leipsic; and beloved dog, Benji.
She was also preceded in death by a sister, LaVanna (Bill) Gruber; and two sisters-in-law: Marge Kern and Nancy Goodwin.
Elsie retired after 27 years with Community Telephone Company as an operator and office personnel. She had also worked as a teacher’s aide in the Leipsic Public Schools; Otterbein Nursing Home, Leipsic and activity aide for Putnam Acres Care Center, Ottawa. She had assisted at Boy Scout Camp for five years and volunteered after retirement at Putnam Acres and The Meadows of Leipsic. Elsie was a member of Leipsic United Methodist and had attended Oakdale United Methodist Church in the past. She enjoyed crocheting, adult coloring books, traveling to Florida, sitting on her front porch and visiting with people.
Funeral service will begin at 1:00 p.m. Friday, September 1, 2023, with Pastor Ruth Carter-Crist officiating. Burial will follow in Sugar Ridge Cemetery, Leipsic. Visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m., Thursday as well as one hour prior to the service Friday at LOVE-HEITMEYER FUNERAL HOME, Leipsic.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be given to Putnam County Cancer Assistance Program (CAP), Putnam County Home Health and Hospice or Sunbeams Preschool.
