Eugene W. Mansfield
LEIPSIC - Eugene W. Mansfield, 74, of Leipsic died 2:15 p.m. Friday, February 4, 2022 at Blanchard Valley Hospital, Findlay. He was born August 12, 1947 in Lima to the late Bob and Louise C. (Scheele) Mansfield.
He is survived by a sister: Karen Rodriguez of Toledo; 2 brothers: Roger (Sandy) Mansfield of Leipsic and Jim (Cheryl) Mansfield of Ottawa; 9 nieces and nephews: Alex Rodriguez II, Adam Rodriguez, Chris Mansfield, Andrea Otto, Amanda Meyer, Jessica Osborn, Dane Mansfield, Taylor Mansfield and Kevyn Brecht; and 2 step-children, whom he helped raise: Connie and Victor Basch.
He was preceded in death by a brother-in-law: Alex Rodriguez, Sr. and a niece: Shaina Mansfield.
Gene spent 40 years in the trucking industry as a mechanic, in shop management and as a professional driver of 18 wheelers. He retired from Nagle Truck Line, Walbridge, OH after 19 years of service. Prior to that he was employed at Tri-County International, Warren, OH and spent 20 years with Great Lakes Diesel, Cleveland.
His military career spanned 26 years with both active duty and as a reservist in both the US Air Force and the US Navy. Serving as a fighter aircraft maintenance during the Cold War, Vietnam Era, Desert Storm and Desert Shield. He retired in 2005 from Wright-Patterson AFB as an Air Force Master Sergeant.
Gene's funeral service will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, May 28, 2022 at the LOVE-HEITMEYER FUNERAL HOME, Leipsic, with Deacon Doyle Erford officiating. Burial will follow in Sugar Ridge Cemetery with military rites by the Leipsic American Legion and VFW. Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service at the funeral home.
