Eugene A. “Gene” Ellerbrock

  KALIDA – Eugene A. “Gene” Ellerbrock, 76, of Kalida passed away 8:41 p.m., Tuesday, June 21, 2022 at Mercy Health St. Rita’s Medical Center, Lima.  He was born March 21, 1946 in Kalida to the late Alfred and Marcella (Hermiller) Ellerbrock.  On October 26, 1968, he married Marge Otto and she survives in Kalida.

  Other survivors include three children:  Sandy (Chris) Wurth of Kalida, Shelly (Eric) Gasser of Findlay and Ryan (Leeann) Ellerbrock of Findlay; eight grandchildren: Byron Wurth, Collin Wurth, Conner Wurth, Trinity Gasser, Damon Gasser, Giada Ellerbrock, Meika Ellerbrock and Oakley Ellerbrock; nine brothers and sisters:  Joann (Gene) Otto of Ottawa, Marilyn Sealts of Fort Jennings, Donald (Janet) Ellerbrock of Columbus Grove, Thomas (Ruth) Ellerbrock of Columbus Grove, Janice (Sam) Golden of Lima, Dennis (Karen) Ellerbrock of Kalida, Christine (Dennis) Horstman of Cloverdale, Jerry Ellerbrock of Kalida and Mike (Barb Niese) Ellerbrock of Kalida; and a sister-in-law, Marilyn Ellerbrock of Columbus Grove.

  He was also preceded in death by a daughter, Gina Ellerbrock; a great-grandson, Xavier Wurth; a brother, George Ellerbrock; and a brother-in-law, Ted Sealts.

  Gene retired in 2011 from Eaton Corporation, Van Wert, where he was a Senior Engineer for 40 years. He was an accomplished engineer with two patents to his name. Gene was a veteran of the Army National Guard. He was also a member of the Ottawa Eagles, St. Michael Catholic Church, Kalida and its Holy Name Society.  Gene loved Jeeps and John Deere. He also enjoyed woodworking, spending time working in the yard and attending his grandchildren’s sporting events and activities. 

 Funeral Mass will begin 10:00 a.m., Monday, June 27, 2022 at St. Michael Catholic Church, Kalida with Fr. Mark Hoying officiating.  Burial will follow in the church cemetery.  Visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m. on Sunday with a scripture service at 1:45 p.m. and one hour prior to the mass on Monday at LOVE-HEITMEYER FUNERAL HOME, Jackson Township.
