George H. Steffan

  LEIPSIC -  George H. Steffan, 61, of Leipsic died at 3:03 P.M. Thursday, January 10, 2019 at his residence.  He was born April 20, 1957 in Lima to Paul and Barbara (Sudlow) Steffan.  His father is deceased, his mother survives in Leipsic.  On July 18, 1981, he married Kathleen Rieman and she survives in Leipsic.  Also surviving are four children: Kayla (Tyler) Niese of Miller City, Paul Steffan, Reid Steffan and Anne Steffan all of Leipsic; three grandchildren: Agustin, Archer and Cecelia Niese; six siblings: Deborah (Duane) Morris of Pandora, Paula (Joe) Weis of New Cleveland, Nancy (Dale Hites) Warnecke of Leipsic, Laura (Jim) Cutlip of Ottawa, Joe (Leslee) Steffan of Leipsic and Connie (Robert) Cox of Ottawa.

   George was a farmer and owner of Leipsic Vault Works. He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Leipsic, Ottawa Knights of Columbus, vice president of St. Mary's Cemetery Board and a retired Gilboa volunteer fireman. He was a firm believer in the 4-H and FFA programs. George would do anything for anyone;  had a wonderful sense of humor and known for his contagious laugh.

   A funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 A.M. Saturday, January 19, 2019 at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Leipsic, with Fr. William Pifher officiating. A Celebration of Life will be held immediately following Mass until 3:00 P.M. in the Parish Life Center. Burial will be at a later date in St. Mary's Cemetery, Leipsic.

    In lieu of flowers, the family request memorials be made to Putnam County 4-H Council, Leipsic FFA or charity of donor's choice.  Because of George's love of the land, anyone wishing to plant a tree in his memory are encouraged to do so.
