H. John "Sid" Sidaway
McCOMB - H. John Sidaway, 73, of McComb died 6:32 p.m. Friday, January 1, 2021 at Blanchard Valley Hospital in Findlay due to complications from COVID-19. He was born October 19, 1947 in Lakewood, Ohio to Howard John and Mary Beatrice (McLaurine) Sidaway. His mother survives in North Olmstead. His father is deceased. On March 25, 1991, he married Kay Kern who survives in McComb.
Other survivors include two sons: Ian (Barb) Sidaway of Findlay, Adam (Nicole) Sidaway of Roanoke, TX and; four step-children: Tim (Tammy) Roy of Yuba City, CA, Cheri (Ron) Seaburn of Findlay, Mindy (Roger) Rosebrock of Leipsic, Brett (Mindy) Dietsch of Philadelpia, PA; two grandchildren; twelve step-grandchildren; four step great-grandchildren; and a sister, Jane Guciardo of Columbus, Ohio.
He was also preceded in death by a sister, Susan Leonard.
Sid was also lovingly known and called "Grumpy" by his family and friends. Always a dedicated son, he called his mother every evening to check on her. He enjoyed daily long strolls, while utilizing his self-developed walking stick (which he was well known for by passers-by). He loved anything trains, kayaking, reading, going to air shows, relaxing with a glass of dry wine or a cheap beer, and petting his cats. He had always dreamed of taking a route 66 trip with his new camera in tow. He proudly obtained his mechanical and aerospace engineering degree from University of Florida. Sid was assistive with any project, known for having his leatherman readily available at any time, and if it wasn't broke, he would fix it! He was currently employed at Nelson Manufacturing in Ottawa and had previously worked at Hancor, Guardian Industries, and Baughman Tile.
Private funeral services will be held Friday, January 8, 2021 at LOVE-HEITMEYER FUNERAL HOME, Leipsic. Burial will follow in Sugar Ridge Cemetery, Leipsic.
