John Randell Harp

  OAKWOOD - John Randell Harp of Oakwood, OH passed away on Monday, May 2, 2022, at the age of 87. After several weeks of declining health, John died peacefully with family by his side.

  He was born in Payne, Ohio on April 2, 1935, to Homer Gleason Harp and Rae Louise Randell Harp.  The oldest of three, he had two sisters: Ann Louise DeRossett and Jeanette M. Shock. He helped out on his family’s small farm and worked any odd jobs he could find starting at an early age. His work ethic and desire to take care of his family led to him enlisting in the Army. He was stationed in Fort Knox, KY until August 2, 1962.

  He married Juanita Mae Masters, May 10, 1961. They were happily married until her death 40 years later, March 12, 2010.

  He retired from General Motors at an early age to enjoy life in Texas, traveling, farming, going to local auctions, fishing, attending church at Twin Oaks United Methodist Church and delivering newspapers for the Crescent News for 20 years.

  John was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Juanita Harp, his sister, Jeanette (Roger) Shock, a son, John Randell Long, a daughter, Gloria Wilson, and brother-in-law, Sam DeRossett.  He is survived by his children: Crystal Lee (Somerset, KY) Charles Wilson (Haviland, OH) Pete Wilson (Somerset, KY) Garnet Wilson (Haviland, OH), 19 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren, 26 great-great-grandchildren.

  A funeral service will begin 11:00 a.m., Friday, May 6, 2022, at HEITMEYER FUNERAL HOME, Continental with Rev. Terry Porter officiating.  Burial will follow at Rochester Cemetery, Cecil. A visitation for John will be held Thursday from 4 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. All are invited to attend.

 Memorial donations may be made to Twin Oaks United Methodist Church, Oakwood.
