OTTOVILLE - John H. Hilvers, 84, of Ottoville died at 1:51 a.m. on Friday, August 24, 2018 at The Meadows of Delphos.
He was born October 19, 1933 in Ottoville to the late Stephen and Veronica (Beining) Hilvers. On April 24, 1954, he married Annette Schimmoeller who survives in Ottoville.
Survivors also include three daughters, Maria (Greg) Kill of Ottoville, Beth (Dan "Boonie") Landin of Ottoville, and Angie (Matt) Hiegel of Ottawa; seven grandchildren, Marissa Nienberg, Bailey Kill, Brayden Kill, Brandt Landin, Bridget Landin, Hannah Hiegel, and Owen Hiegel; three siblings, Ruth (Dick) Schroeder of Leipsic, Dick (Jan) Hilvers of Ottoville, and Tom (Karen) Hilvers of Ottoville; and two sisters-in-law, Jean Hilvers and Alice Hilvers, both of Ottoville.
He was preceded in death by a son-in-law, Chris Nienberg; and three brothers, Jim, Donald, and Bob Hilvers.
John was a life long farmer. He was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Ottoville and it's Holy Name Society. He was Director of the Ottoville Bank Co., former Director of Ottoville Telephone Co., member of Ottoville Lion's Club and Ottawa Eagles, and social member of Ottoville V.F.W. He enjoyed his family especially his grandkids and spending time at his river cottage.
Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, August 28, 2018 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Ottoville with the Very Reverend Jerome Schetter officiating. Burial will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery, Ottoville. Visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m. Monday at Love-Heitmeyer Funeral Home, Jackson Township where a Scripture Service will be held at 1:45 p.m. Monday.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Putnam County Hospice or Immaculate Conception Catholic Church Window Restoration.
