John R. Leach
GLANDORF- John R. Leach, 84, of Glandorf, died at 10:10 p.m. Tuesday, April 6, 2021 at his residence. He was born May 13, 1936 in Erie, PA to the late Robert J. and Agnes (Heckman) Leach. On July 28, 1956, he married Joyce Drerup who survives in Glandorf.
Other survivors include 2 daughters: Mary Beth (Alan) Unterbrink of Delphos and JoAnn (Denton) Landon of Winston-Salem, NC; 2 sons: James Leach of Houston, TX and John Leach of Bucyrus; 10 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; a brother: Michael Leach of Glandorf; and a sister-in-law: Carol Singer of Ney.
He is preceded in death by an infant sister: Patricia Leach.
John retired after 40 years from Philips of Ottawa in August of 1994. His last position was keeping the factory robots operating. He was also a journeyman electrician, TV repairman, installed TV towers and a great all-around handyman who could fix anything! He even repaired the roof in Arizona just this past February. John was a U.S. Air Force veteran during peacetime. He was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Glandorf, Ottawa Eagles, Leipsic Fishing & Hunting Club and Ottawa 3rd Degree Knights of Columbus. John served on the Putnam County Sheriff's Department Auxiliary for 10 years. He was also a Cub Scout Leader and church altar boy and usher. For years, John loved to go walleye fishing in Lake Erie and continued taking his blind friend fishing with him as well. In retirement, John and his wife wintered in Green Valley, AZ where he loved to golf and spend time with friends. He also enjoyed visiting friends in the area nursing homes.
Funeral Mass will begin 9:30 a.m. Saturday, April 10, 2021 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Glandorf with Father Tony Fortman officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will be held 4-8 p.m. Friday at LOVE FUNERAL HOME, Ottawa. Due to the regulations regarding COVID-19, masks will be required upon entering the funeral home and/or church.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Sts. Peter and Paul School Endowment Fund.
