John L. “Bruce” Hurst
OTTAWA – John L. “Bruce” Hurst, 61, of Ottawa died 3:30 a.m. Monday, April 12, 2021 at Findlay Care Center. He was born August 7, 1959 in Honolulu, HI to the late John L. Hurst and Barbara J. (Taylor) Hurst Deken.
Survivors include two sons: Cody Hurst of Ottawa and Ben Hurst of Des Moines, IA; two grandchildren: Caidence and Luke; and four siblings: Mary Bratton of Owensboro, KY, Jessica “Cissy” (Scott) Triplehorn of Pandora, Leslie (Tom) Schumacher of Columbus Grove, and Steve Deken, Continental; several nieces and nephews and great-nieces and nephews.
He was also preceded in death by brother-in-law, David Bratton and step-fathers: Bob Deken and Ben Freeze.
Bruce was a press operator for Warren Printing in Ottawa. He was a U.S. Marine veteran and former member of the Ottawa VFW. He loved his Harley and his animals; especially his dog Lady Bird.
In keeping with social distancing guidelines, visitation will be from 4-8 p.m., Wednesday, April 14, 2021 at LOVE FUNERAL HOME, OTTAWA. Masks are required upon entrance. Military rites will begin at 7:45 p.m. by the Ottawa American Legion, VFW and AMVETS.
Memorial donations may be made to the Putnam County Dog Shelter or Wounded Warrior Project.
